I read the blog on ‘The Rise of Ubiquitous Computing’ and it was good this was almost to hard to get my noggin around, on one hand you have the virtual reality ‘CAVE’ were a person enters a room almost with 3 or more walls around them where there is things projected onto the walls while the person has a head set on over there eyes as they enter this 3D world this is cool but not that new.
After watching the short video showing the ‘Commercials’ in ‘Minority Report’ the film and reading soon this wont be sci-fi but real life, its kind of like wow cool.
Mark Weiser came up with the term ‘Ubiquitous Computing’. This is the future and its scary! The concept is to have a “post-desktop model of human-computer interaction in which information processing has been thoroughly integrated into everyday objects and activities. Someone ‘using’ ubiquitous computing engages many computational devices and systems simultaneously, in the course of ordinary activities, and may not necessarily even be aware that they are doing so”. So just like the film ‘Minority Report’ we could soon live like this, where computers do all the work and can almost think for themselves its cool because this is a really good advancement in technology but also leaves my with ‘the fear’ feeling of when will I get a knock on the door and there’s the Terminator ready to shoot me. I saw on the news this evening they have created a female robot than can talk and do facial expressions and will be walking down the Japanese catwalk they say its far away until they will do our washing up but I say how far? anyway I am getting distracted.
I also read about the’ Semantic Web’ and watched the video ‘Tim Berners-Lee on the Semantic Web’ this man is insanely smart the semantic web is computers being able to read between the lines almost so we don’t have to do all the fiddly bits, its basically making the computer be able to read the web pages we publish by using a different kind of code that they can understand which will help to bridge the gap between us and the computer and the computers working on there own. I think haha.
